“Baby” – a love letter from a
distant home
We start
with a bass line. Drumsticks count in unusual time. When the acoustic guitar
starts playing, not only does it have a delay, but seems unable to find a
rhythm. Is this an actual song or did
someone record a rehearsal and tried to pass it off as music? There is a feeling
that nothing coherent could arise from such indecision. The sounds weave in and
out until; finally, it all impossibly comes together into a groove. What we
have then are beautiful major chords, an unusual 6/8 tempo that is always on
the verge of setting itself loose. Out of nowhere, strings over strings appear,
threatening to take the song into another dimension. By the time we think
things might go too far, a voice pulls us back to earth and into the song’s
reality. But what is this reality? (attention to the most recent comment)
